I wake up with the sun, happy and satisfied. I roll over to spoon Ava, but there’s no one lying next to me. I grumble and open my eyes. The bed is empty. It was yesterday as well, so I’m not worried. She’s probably downstairs doing yoga or practicing her routine. I sit in bed and run a hand through my hair to help me wake up a bit more.

Last night was amazing. We had a great time having dinner and drinks, and something felt right about her, about us. I felt it when we came home as well. I’d been yearning for her all afternoon. Watching her swim and giggle in the waves in her red bikini had turned me on so hard. Watching her sunbathe, her soft, light skin being warmed up by the sun, was captivating.

So, when we got home last night, I simply couldn’t wait anymore and carried her to the bedroom. I realized midway that it was going to be the first time that we did it in a bed. It was funny but also felt right. It was time to explore each other on a comfortable surface.

I laid her on the bed and when I saw her smiling up at me, welcoming me with open arms, something shifted deep inside of me. Something that hadn’t moved in a very long time, so I made love to her. I was tender and patient and loving, and I made a decision last night: I want her. I want her all to myself for real. She hasn’t talked about other clients, but I guess it’s part of the agreement. I’m not supposed to know if there are others. But I have been taking up a lot of her time lately, so I suppose she doesn’t have time for other clients.

Today, I want to tell her that I want more than this transactional relationship. She makes me happy, and I want to see where this could go. Hell, I even want to officially introduce her to Duke, which I’ve never done.

I put some clothes on and go downstairs, looking for her. She isn’t there. I’m a little surprised, but I spot a note on the counter and open it, expecting her to be out for a run or something. That is not what I read.

“I’m sorry, Lex. I can’t do this.”

I read it several times to be sure I read right and then I drop on a chair, utterly lost. What can’t she do? I haven’t even told her anything yet. Maybe she can’t continue having sex with me? That isn’t something she’d agreed to in the beginning.

I pull my phone from my pocket and call her. She doesn’t pick up. I try a few more times, and I go directly to voicemail. My stomach flipflops. What’s going on? I dash upstairs and realize that her things are gone. I try calling her again to no avail.

Did I do something wrong? I think back over all the time we’ve spent together, and I can’t find a moment where she looked unhappy or upset with me.
